Trish Bartley is one of the CMRP founding teachers. She has been teaching MBCT for Cancer (MBCT-Ca) to cancer patients at a regional oncology unit since 2000. She co-leads one of the masters in mindfulness teaching modules and trains on Teacher Training Retreats and other CPD programmes for CMRP. She leads mindfulness-based retreats and workshops internationally. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer: Gently Turning Towards by Trish Bartley was published late last year by Wiley-Blackwell.

Details of Workshop

This four day retreat will train you to teach the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer (MBCT-Ca) 8 week programme.

It is offered to mindfulness-based teachers, who have already undertaken a basic mindfulness-based teacher training (such as the CMRP 7 day TTR1 or equivalent)

Over the 4 days we will explore the intention, approach and new aspects of the 8 week MBCT-Ca programme – paying particular attention to:

  • Ways of adapting the core practices as they are guided for cancer participants
  • Practicing the guiding of the new brief practices amongst your peers
  • Experiencing and reflecting on the ‘new’ processes that have been created within MBCT-Ca
  • Ways that we can emphasise and work with kindness and self compassion within the intervention
  • Understanding the cognitive model that underpins MBCT-Ca – and the place of the four practice movements of Intention; Coming Back; Turning Towards; and Kindness
  • Exploring the teaching implications of working with this population and how we can support ourselves as teachers.

The training retreat will focus on:

  • Practice
  • Dialogue and Inquiry – both in peer groups and the large group
  • Discussion and Reflection – in small and large groups
  • Presentation

This is a specialist mindfulness-based teacher training process – for those already qualified / working in oncology or cancer support settings and who have completed basic mindfulness-based teacher training (7 days +) and who are already teaching MBCT/MBSR to this and other populations.
